Four years ago, Chas Roberts Air Conditioning and Plumbing wanted to find a way help Arizona homeowners in need. As the state’s largest air conditioning provider, they knew having a Tucson or Phoenix HVAC system built to withstand Arizona’s long, hot summers was a necessity. They also knew that not everyone had a properly-working system or, in most situations, an HVAC system at all. So, in 2010, Chas Roberts launched their first ever AC Giveaway contest, which gave needy families a brand new Carrier or Goodman system – with installation – at no cost.
“We enjoy sponsoring this program every year because it’s a way to give something back to the community that has helped us become the largest provider of Tucson and Phoenix air conditioning systems,” said Chas Roberts CEO Sissie Roberts Shank. “We’re a local, family-owned business and want to show our appreciation to the Arizonans who’ve supported us for more than 70 years.”
Since the first AC Giveaway, nearly a dozen families have received a new Tucson or Phoenix HVAC system.
In 2012, Ken and Bambi Hartman of Phoenix were nominated by Ken’s coworker and selected as one of the winners. The Hartmans run the Great Dane rescue of Arizona from their home and had been living without an air conditioner for seven years.
Jeff Rosati of Maricopa, Ariz. had been through some difficult times when he was selected as a winner in 2011. He had health problems that required him to resign from his job. This left his family – which includes two adopted children – with just one unemployment check to stay afloat. Repairs for his Phoenix HVAC system had been put on hold until his health improved and he could find a new job.
Joey Kline of Tucson was one of the first winners, in 2010. Kline is a U.S. Army veteran who was living off of her veteran’s disability and social security checks and had taken in a friend who was facing homelessness due to foreclosure. Joey’s air conditioning system was in such bad shape that she couldn’t afford to run the unit.
“So many of the personal stories we receive really tug at the heartstrings,” said Roberts Shank. “We really appreciate being able to provide comfort for these families.”
The 2013 AC Giveaway is underway! Nominations are being accepted through June 30, 2013 on ChasRoberts.com or by texting “cool play” to 36929. Anyone can nominate a Phoenix or Tucson family in need. After nominations are reviewed, two winners will be selected to receive a new Carrier or Goodman system this summer.
