Chas Roberts Celebrates July 4 Holiday by Helping Veterans Stay Cool

Phoenix, Arizona (July 4, 2011) – As most Phoenicians were celebrating Independence Day at a family BBQ or by staying cool in the pool, some Valley veterans were likely trying to find a place to get shelter from the record-breaking, and sometimes deadly, 118-degree heat. Arizona has one of the highest average annual rates of death from heat exposure among U.S. states, with many of the victims being from the homeless population.

That’s why Chas Roberts Air Conditioning and Heating partnered with two local organizations to honor veterans by helping them stay cool this Independence Day. Chas Roberts performed maintenance and repairs on the air conditioning systems at two group residences run by nonprofit Arizona Housing Inc. Arizona Housing Inc. (AHI) provides clean, safe and affordable rentals to formerly homeless men, women and children. AHI works closely with Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), a nonprofit organization committed to ending homelessness in the Phoenix metropolitan area. CASS is the largest provider of emergency shelter and supportive services for homeless individuals in Arizona and provides emergency shelter services to 1,000 men, women and children each night. CASS refers some of these individuals to AHI for longer-term housing.
