(February 26, 2018) – Believe it or not, that shower you take after pool time to rinse the chlorine off may actually do more harm than good. The reason is that the water coming out of your tap can actually have more chlorine in it than pool water and your skin acts as a sponge to quickly soak it up, even in the shower. Chas Roberts VP of Residential Sales & Service, Damon Bromagem just completed a demonstration which shows not only the chlorine content in unfiltered tap water but just how fast skin soaks it up. The good news is that with the right kind of filtration system, Valley of the Sun residents can safely remove that chlorine before it comes out of their sinks and showers.
The chlorine added to municipal water is done for good reason. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), added chlorine helps to water free of bacteria, viruses, and microbes. Our water in the desert needs even more chlorine treatment in the harsh summer months when temperatures are elevated which can lead to even more instances of dangerous bacteria. But that additive is no longer needed when the water is in use, making an activated charcoal filtration system a great way to ensure cleaner water that is better for your skin and safer to drink.
Damon Bromagem at Chas Roberts has even more to say about it, “Our demonstration shows that in just a few seconds, your skin will soak up all the chlorine in a test tube of water. It also shows that regular unfiltered tap water has quite a bit of chlorine in it, even during cool weather months. For these two reasons, I highly recommend checking into a filtration system that removes the chlorine and then flows through a softener to remove the minerals that are hard on your appliances and fixtures.”
